Bad Mouthin

Well, last month's Bad Mouthin' launch party at SWG3 in Glasgow was a bit special. If you were down there that night you're definitely sure to agree. The old school warehouse vibe (complete with puzzled taxi drivers and crowds of people following each other trying to find the venue), cheering, crowded dancefloor, the best music ever and a last record that had the entire crowd singing along as the lights came on... Sublime!

This month Rahaan's on the other side of the world, so they thought they would take the opportunity to welcome a DJ that they've had their eye on for quite some time, Detroit's Rick Wilhite (Stilove4music). Best known for his collaborations with Theo Parrish, Kenny Dixon Jr and Marcellus Pittman as 3 Chairs, Rick's also a big big disco fan ("I love disco and cannot live without it"), so is as excited as we are at the prospect of him playing an exclusive disco set this Saturday... Detroit style! Bad Mouthin resident Al Kent (Million Dollar Disco/BBE) will also be at hand with his knowledge and sounds for a night not to be missed.

There will be some freebies on Saturday night, The first fifty or so through the door will receive either a copy of Rick's debut album on Stillmusic "Analog Aquarium" - out this week, or Al Kent's "Disco Love 2" which is out next Monday on BBE. Get down early!

Early bird tickets for Saturday sold out quickly, but there's still a chance to save a couple of quid by buying advance tickets. Advance tickets will only be on sale until midnight on Friday 25th March. Or simply pay at the door. Whatever you decide, just make sure you find your place on the dancefloor. This Saturday March 26th at SWG3 (Studio Warehouse) Glasgow. 10pm-3am Tickets £8 Advance/£10 On the door. Enjoy.....

Loleatta Holloway Death Of A Legend

Legendary disco and soul vocalist Loleatta Holloway passed away last night in Chicago, after a short illness. She was 64.

While the title “Queen Of Disco” may be hotly contended by Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor and even Sylvester, for many it is Loleatta Holloway who rightfully wears the crown.

Holloway started her career in the early Seventies on the label Aware, working on gospel-tinged funk with her husband Fred Smith, before moving on to work extensively with Salsoul Records/MFSB producer Norman Harris and writer/producer Dan Hartman. She released a string of cult hits on the label, and provided vocals for the in-house Salsoul Orchestra. Though these were never big commercially at the time, they have since gone on to define their era and the disco genre itself. So much so that Holloway has become one of the most sampled artists of all time. Producers have been known to make entire tracks out of her throw-away yet distinctive ad libs, and some (like Black Box and Marky Mark) have turned these into huge global hits.

Here is a great edit of her track "Dreamin" done by Richard Sen's longtime partner and collaborator Cazbee from Mixed Blood Cuts. Click on the arrow to download.

A massive loss to the world of music. RIP Loleatta, Angels will be dancing when you come home....

Brennan Green

After the last three months of insane parties featuring Addison Groove, Terror Danjah, Rune Lindbaek and Cosmin TRG, Mount Heart Attack knew they had to seriously step up their game for March. So they thought another Scottish debut would be in order. For the first time New York DJ, Producer and remixer Brennan Green (Chinatown/Wurst) will grace Glasgow on Friday the 11th March with one of his utterly mind blowing DJ sets. Attaining legendary status along with Daniel Wang, Lindstrom, Prins Thomas and Rune Lindbaek, his sound is a broad, colourful beast. He has shared releases with all of the people mentioned, along with recent outings with Crazy P that won him even more admirers, adopting a deeper, more hypnotic house sound. His sets take in Disco, House, Krautrock, Prog, Funk and everything in between. To say the least, this is a very, very special show from a true legend.

In support will be one of Glasgow's most feted producers and DJ's, Ali Herron (aliOOFT/Ooft Music). Alongside The Revenge, Ali has helped shape an entire International movement. Based around the outer, intergalactic reaches of house and disco, their super sexy, pitched down sound has seen them both travel the world, inspiring a new generation of electronic musicians.

An amazing night not to be missed! Friday 11th March at La Cheetah Club 73 Queen St Glasgow. After party at a secret location, featuring David Barbarossa (Hung Up), Craig Moog (Piece Together) and Mount Heart Attack residents
. Here's a mix of Brennan's from BABradio to get you in the mood.....

Solid Gold Safari

SOLID GOLD SAFARI is a party which runs all day, every Saturday from 3pm in The HALT BAR, Glasgow. It has rapidly carved itself a niche in Glasgow's clubland as it is the only , all day, free party in Glasgow on a Saturday. The resident DJs are DJ DRIBBLER and THE EARL ( CHEF de PARTY)

The SOLID GOLD SAFARI concept was brought back from New York by party founder DJ DRIBBLER who started the SOLID GOLD parties in STINGY LULU'S on St Mark's Place between 1st and Ave A every Sunday after Body and Soul. STINGY LULU's was closed amongst the dust and rubble on September 11th 2001 and with it SOLID GOLD SUNDAYS.

When he returned to Glasgow in 2009 , DJ DRIBBLER realised that everything revolved around competing with other clubs on a Friday/Saturday night and that Sundays were sewn up, as was the culture in Glasgow at the time. The attitudes of door staff and club management was so different to that which he had experienced for the previous 10 years in New York that Solid Gold Safari was reborn with a mind to give the music back to the people for free and to also encourage people to bring their kids and be able to get back home for midnight if they so wished.

DJ DRIBBLER and promotions expert CHEF De PARTY teamed up and approached the scene with a whole new ethic. Why should going out entail spending exorbitant amounts of money ? (Especially spending money only to be shouted at, searched and treated like a criminal.) It was important to take the message back to the underground and encourage individual thought and input. It seemed like Glasgow, for all it's wealth of talent and amazing people had missed the boat when it came to creativity and there were hours wasted every weekend because people had become conditioned to going out at the same time and to the same places. The two went about amassing the best DJs that Scotland has to offer and explaining the ethos to them. The DJs responded favourably and the result is that there is now no better place to hear the realest underground dance music all day for free, in Scotland.

The music policy at SOLID GOLD SAFARI is tight, they play underground dance music. The vibe is egalitarian in that anyone can DJ as long as they know that if they suck…. they're off. This policy has seen the best of Scotland's talent and many internationally renowned DJs gracing the tables in THE HALT BAR. With punters travelling from Edinburgh, Stirling and across the central belt of Scotland every week it is a combination of old school mentality and the freshest newest music that has made SOLID GOLD SAFARI the fun, sussed, in the know spot that it is. This is a party that is going from strength to strength with festival bookings, residencies in other cities and gigs around the world in the pipeline for 2011.

If you haven't been yet then don't worry, the vibe is the same and shows no signs of changing. The Halt Bar and Solid Gold Safari simply put on the best DJs there are in Glasgow and match them with affordable drinks prices from a clued up bar staff and the uniquely affordable entry price ….. FREE !!!!!

It runs every Saturday from 3pm till midnight and there simply is no better place to hear quality music in a cracking atmosphere. Dancing is actively encouraged and for many the prospect of going to a club after the Safari would only mean a let down. Solid Gold Safari actively supports every other club and cultural music event in Glasgow and they nurture and promote the old school attitudes and attributes that made Glasgow the house music world centre that it is.

New Moon

New Claremont act Almunia bring us their debut 12” for the label as a precursor to their album. Side-A offers up "New Moon" a subtle, atmospheric slo-mo jam, with sparkling guitar lines and a hefty throb in the bottom end, added Floyd-esque touches and weirded out vocals bring a nice psychedelic touch. Over on Side-B, the instrumental version of "Travel" packs a slightly weightier punch, with a sluggish bass and beats combo this one nods along in a chunky electro-boogie-rock fashion, layers of FX guitar and a slightly moody air all add to the flavour. Quality stuff. Out now from all good record stores. Enjoy...

Kid Who

The south London DJ, Producer and remixer Kid Who ( Louis Jaquet) returns with a great remix for fellow London five piece Crystal Fighters. The track "At Home" see's a great reworking with nicely tweaked sounds and production and a spaced out intro to kick it off. After his recent work and release on Pizzico Records from Italy and his edits on Belgium's great Mindless Boogie label we hope to be hearing more of this kid. Enjoy the sounds....
