Maurice Fulton At La Cheetah

Maurice Fulton cut his teeth as a hip-hop DJ, and most noticibly programmed drums and played keyboards on aboveground house hits by Crystal Waters and Ultra Naté. He started a stockpile of production pseudonyms including Boof, Eddie & the Eggs, Sticky People, and Syclops -- that likely numbers north of 20. His best-known work will forever remain within Crystal Waters' "Gypsy Woman," but the early 2000s saw him achieve a different kind of notoriety as the non-shrieking half of Mu, a collaborative affair with his wife, Mutsumi Kanamori. Mu's Afro Finger and Gel (2003) and Out of Breach (Manchester's Revenge) (2005) are two gleaming examples of left-field house at its least predicable.

Maurice has also developed into the most reliably creative and off-the-wall remixer. A complete compilation of his commissioned output would span several discs. A typical Fulton remix bends and mutates synthesized elements of house, funk and disco without sounding the least bit stilted or forced. In Fulton's hands, polite and pleasant house tracks are given edge and a whole lot of bite.

A massive "Happy Birthday" goes out to Solid Gold Safari who are celebrating the brilliant free daytime clubs 1st birthday this weekend. DJ Dribbler and The Earl have brought together some top guests from further afield and some of the city's best DJ's and producers on a weekly basis to play for Solid Gold in the Halt Bar in Glasgow's west end. The celebrations start today in the Halt at 3pm with the residents being joined by the great northern House/Electronic DJ and producer Cottam and continue tomorrow at Mchuills on High St for a BBQ with Edinburgh's legendary Yogi Haughton and Bosco from the brilliant Lets Go Back club nights. This weekend see's some real pioneers and legends playing in Max's La Cheetah club in Glasgow. The "Electro Enemies" weekend kicks off in style with legendary Italian producer Alexander Robotnick. He made his debut on the Italian music scene as the founding-member of Avida. Robotnick has had a long and colorful history, including scoring films in the eighties and joining a world music troupe in the nineties, but he’s most celebrated for his pioneering electro tracks such as ‘Problèmes D'Amour’ from 1983. He is joined on the night by Glasgow's great Jelly Roll Soul DJ's who have brought some outstanding guests to their club nights in the city over the past while. Also joining them on the turntables in full effect will be The Wasp (Pest Control Records) and Craig Moog (Piece Together).

The fun continues on Sunday with the all round creative Alan Oldham (DJ-T1000). A lifelong cartoonist and graphic designer, a young Alan Oldham published his own indie comic book "Johnny Gambit" in 1987 to local notoriety. Hired that same year by his childhood friend Derrick May to illustrate several memorable pieces for his new Transmat label, this led to Oldham's very first involvement in the fledgling techno scene. More art requests quickly followed, most famously from the Djax-Up-Beats label (NL), where his art took center stage for many years (the lone EP that Oldham produced for Djax, under the name Signal To Noise Ratio, brought home a 1991 Detroit Metro Times Music Award for best single in "Detroit Is Burning"). Since those long-ago days, a solo Oldham continues to rock crowds in Berlin (with an unofficial residency at Tresor), Naples, Barcelona (unofficial residency at Moog), Madrid, London, Tel Aviv, Tokyo and all points in between with his own no-nonsense brand of bangin', funky-ass techno. When DJ T-1000 is on the flyer, fans know he's bringing the ruckus. When he's not behind the decks or in the studio producing electronic dance music for labels like Tresor Berlin, Inzec (CH), Minimalsoul (CH), or his own Pure Sonik and Generator imprints, his drawings and paintings have been on display in art galleries in Chicago, Berlin, Paris, Los Angeles, and Amsterdam, the last of which was a SOLD-OUT opening attracting the likes of Ben Sims, Dave Clarke, DJ Bone, Ritzi Lee, DJ Kammy, and art lovers from Berlin, Dresden, and London. A true autodidact and all-around artist, Oldham's latest album, "Beyond Djax," a companion piece to the Amsterdam art show, is out now on Pure Sonik Records. He is joined on the night by Glasgow's Pro Vinylist Karim (PVK), Slabs Of The Tabernacle DJ's who have also brought some stunning guests to the city, The brilliant Jamie Thomson (Melting Pot/Traxx), Kev Stevens and De Large. Well, last month's Bad Mouthin' launch party at SWG3 in Glasgow was a bit special. If you were down there that night you're definitely sure to agree. The old school warehouse vibe (complete with puzzled taxi drivers and crowds of people following each other trying to find the venue), cheering, crowded dancefloor, the best music ever and a last record that had the entire crowd singing along as the lights came on... Sublime!

This month Rahaan's on the other side of the world, so they thought they would take the opportunity to welcome a DJ that they've had their eye on for quite some time, Detroit's Rick Wilhite (Stilove4music). Best known for his collaborations with Theo Parrish, Kenny Dixon Jr and Marcellus Pittman as 3 Chairs, Rick's also a big big disco fan ("I love disco and cannot live without it"), so is as excited as we are at the prospect of him playing an exclusive disco set this Saturday... Detroit style! Bad Mouthin resident Al Kent (Million Dollar Disco/BBE) will also be at hand with his knowledge and sounds for a night not to be missed.

There will be some freebies on Saturday night, The first fifty or so through the door will receive either a copy of Rick's debut album on Stillmusic "Analog Aquarium" - out this week, or Al Kent's "Disco Love 2" which is out next Monday on BBE. Get down early!

Loleatta Holloway Death Of A Legend

Legendary disco and soul vocalist Loleatta Holloway passed away last night in Chicago, after a short illness. She was 64.

While the title “Queen Of Disco” may be hotly contended by Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor and even Sylvester, for many it is Loleatta Holloway who rightfully wears the crown.

Holloway started her career in the early Seventies on the label Aware, working on gospel-tinged funk with her husband Fred Smith, before moving on to work extensively with Salsoul Records/MFSB producer Norman Harris and writer/producer Dan Hartman. She released a string of cult hits on the label, and provided vocals for the in-house Salsoul Orchestra. Though these were never big commercially at the time, they have since gone on to define their era and the disco genre itself. So much so that Holloway has become one of the most sampled artists of all time. Producers have been known to make entire tracks out of her throw-away yet distinctive ad libs, and some (like Black Box and Marky Mark) have turned these into huge global hits.

SOLID GOLD SAFARI is a party which runs all day, every Saturday from 3pm in The HALT BAR, Glasgow. It has rapidly carved itself a niche in Glasgow's clubland as it is the only , all day, free party in Glasgow on a Saturday. The resident DJs are DJ DRIBBLER and THE EARL ( CHEF de PARTY)

The SOLID GOLD SAFARI concept was brought back from New York by party founder DJ DRIBBLER who started the SOLID GOLD parties in STINGY LULU'S on St Mark's Place between 1st and Ave A every Sunday after Body and Soul. STINGY LULU's was closed amongst the dust and rubble on September 11th 2001 and with it SOLID GOLD SUNDAYS.

When he returned to Glasgow in 2009 , DJ DRIBBLER realised that everything revolved around competing with other clubs on a Friday/Saturday night and that Sundays were sewn up, as was the culture in Glasgow at the time. The attitudes of door staff and club management was so different to that which he had experienced for the previous 10 years in New York that Solid Gold Safari was reborn with a mind to give the music back to the people for free and to also encourage people to bring their kids and be able to get back home for midnight if they so wished.

DJ DRIBBLER and promotions expert CHEF De PARTY teamed up and approached the scene with a whole new ethic. Why should going out entail spending exorbitant amounts of money ? (Especially spending money only to be shouted at, searched and treated like a criminal.) It was important to take the message back to the underground and encourage individual thought and input. It seemed like Glasgow, for all it's wealth of talent and amazing people had missed the boat when it came to creativity and there were hours wasted every weekend because people had become conditioned to going out at the same time and to the same places. The two went about amassing the best DJs that Scotland has to offer and explaining the ethos to them. Side-A offers up "New Moon" a subtle, atmospheric slo-mo jam, with sparkling guitar lines and a hefty throb in the bottom end, added Floyd-esque touches and weirded out vocals bring a nice psychedelic touch. Over on Side-B, the instrumental version of "Travel" packs a slightly weightier punch, with a sluggish bass and beats combo this one nods along in a chunky electro-boogie-rock fashion, layers of FX guitar and a slightly moody air all add to the flavour. December 31st see's Billy Woods (Supermax) and Craig Moog (Electrofunkdiscotek) join together for a disco meltdown at the Brunswick hotel in Glasgow's Merchant City for the end of the year Hogmanay Ho'Down. Billy's been busy during 2010 with some great events and gigs including Che Supermax, Party's at SWG3 and slots alongside Daniel Wang, Red Rack'em and Optimo's Jonnie Wilkes. Supermax party's have seen great attendance with people such as Christopher Kane, Tim Sweeney, Tim Goldsworthy, Jim Lambie, Geoff Ellis, Slam and Horse Meat Disco DJ's Jim Stanton & James Hillard dropping in to previous club nite's to experience the ride.

Craig Moog has played at some of the city's greatest party's this year including The Wee Chill Festival, Electric Frog and Solid Gold Safari with DJ slots alongside people such as Italy's Francisco (Jollymusic), Maelstrom (Solardisco) and Norway's cosmic disco master Rune Lindbaek (Paper Recordings). Craig also runs the the Electrofunkdiscotek nights at the Brunswick which see's him and Billy team up on a bi-monthly basis for Supermax.

Expect a taste of the decadent sound systems of New York's disco era, with local loudspeaker designer and acoustic engineer Bob Balmain on hand to deliver the sound with a super rare fully restored ‘D’ model Bozak and Urei rotary mixers for superior sound reproduction. Expect a soundtrack of Disco, Italo, Wild Style, Prog, Rock'n'Roll, Electric Muzik and Cosmic Sounds. They will also be joined by Glasgow's finest percussionist Martin Bongo on live Percussion, chimes and breaks.

Roman party ignitor and master of all things disco, Francisco (Jollymusic), will be joining us in Glasgow for a pre Christmas shake down. Francisco is one of the most eclectic dance artists that has been working in the Italian music scene, especially because of his fresh and quirky sound made of Italo Disco, Funk and Old School Chicago House. So many DJ's from Italy and Europe had taken notice of his music just after the release of his first two solo records "Salvation" and "Fregna" both on Pigna records. Francisco's music has been featured on many compilations by people such as Dr. Electroluv or numerous ones issued by the famous British dance magazines Jockey Slut and DJ Magazine. Francisco is ready now to step ahead introducing newer tracks such as "Moon Roller" and a full length album named "Music Business". Both works showing that he represents the heritage of the purest Italo disco. His show is made of humor and groove, all based on a perfect mixing technique that has been acknowledged during the many experiences on the road thanks to his previous projects such as Mat101 and Jollymusic.

Enzo Ponzio Reworks

One of our favourite artists over at Piece Together, Enzo Ponzio see's the release of a great reworks package with new mixes coming courtesy of Kid Who stepping up to rework "My 80's Funk" and Discodromo taking on "Italian Boy". The Sicilian artist started his career as a DJ in 1991. He worked for several years in parties and clubs in Sicily and then decided to move to Milan, where he soon started working as a composer and sessionman in productions of other artists. He published,with the label ‘Scenario Music’, his first solo album with the title ‘"Sopra la Soglia"’ creating thus a new project, ‘Ganesh’, founded by him. In the meantime he started collaborating with artists having a dance background and, above all, he started playing his dj sets. He became a resident Dj in several important lounge clubs in Milan, including among others ‘Roialto’. He produced several singles for ‘Scenario music’ and covered a lot of distance along the way. His sound is firmly based in electronic music,taking in Italo,cosmic disco and some spaced out electronica.

Enzo has had the support from artists such as Lindstrom, Prins Thomas, Aeroplane, Xaver Naudascher, Billy Bogus and Diskjokke to name but a few,and also great support from labels such as Eskimo Recordings, Internasjonal, Solardisco and Bear Funk, With most of his new releases coming courtesy of Pizzico Records. Beatfanatic is just one of the aliases of Ture Sjöberg, a Stockholm based producer. Not only a crate-digger of epic proportions, Ture is also a prodigious producer of some of the most forward thinking disco around at the moment. He is also label manager for Soundscape Records, a label concentrated on releasing eclectic disco music. This year has seen him release an outstanding album (Beatfanatic 2010), EPs, some great reworks & remixes and some top class edits. He always manages to strike a great balance between his synth laden disco flavored dance tracks with more smooth midtempo Balearic groovers and some killer cosmic disco tracks all containing his amazing production values.

With new releases dropping in 2011 on labels such as Kodak Giant Sounds and Soundscape he is one guy to watch out for. The track "Zink Loyd" included here is taken from his new album and is available from Traxsource and Juno. Enjoy the music....

Yet another quality record from the NEEDWANT camp, this time we have Bonar Bardberry (PBR Streetgang) delivering the goods. Title track "Siula Grande" is a killer downtempo groove complete with a slightly menacing bassline & lovely warm minor chords. For those who like to go deeper Pete Herbert (Reverso 68) steps up to remix this one on a slightly more uptempo tip and it's a blinder. On the flipside we have "For All Time" which is all Analogue Bass, Double handclap's & Piano sounds giving this track a great feel. On remixing duties for this we have Burnski (20:20 Vision) who takes it in a totally Disco direction with his relentlessly groovy take, carving out a great version.

A sure fire winner of a 12" which is a great addition to any record box. Nice to see a label keeping up a great standard of releases. Go on NEEDWANT.

Fernando Pulichino is not only a producer and DJ but also a multi instrumentalist, live performer and singer songwriter. Since the age of 14 he has been an accomplished bass player and his many musical talents have grown and flourished making him a prominent player in modern music. Fernando’s extensive discography is testament to his numerous releases under guises such as Silver City, Fernando, Ciudad Feliz, The Spirals, Julian and Fernando and he is also a member of Ralph Lawson’s 20/20 Soundsystem. His singles, remixes and albums have been released on some of the most prominent labels around including Get Physical, Soma, 20/20 Vision, Redux, Bearfunk and Prins Thomas’s Internasjonals, to name a few.
His DJing and live performing talents have meant he has played alongside some of the best DJ’s and live musicians at clubs like Fabric, Watergate, Back to Basics and Space in Ibiza. As well as this Fernando continues to play regularly at festivals like Sonar, Glastonbury, The Big Chill and Garden Festival in Croatia.

Space Ranger come from the stars. The trio based in Stuttgart have a wide experience and an unlimited love for music. In their previous disguises they have done remixes for the likes of Kool & The Gang, Sugababes and Kurtis Blow, but now they are absolutely focused on this new project. Space is the place. The three members their DJ careers in late 80s / early 90s and they are strongly influenced by the deep club sound of those days. Combining sophisticated production skills, a huge range of analogue equipment and a long-term experience of what works on dance floors around the world they know how to move the crowds. By accessing to samples taken from a huge collection of old-school dance, disco and soul records they are creating the distinctive and sophisticated house and disco sound of today.

After the success of the "Star Wash EP" the trio present two new boogie banger's from their voyage to the stars in order to make the wait for their debut album (due out in October 2010) a lot more bearable. For all of those who loved the Wee Chill, Liquid Events are back with their summer offering The Electric Frog. This time round there is a bigger choice of artists, with three different areas catering for everybody’s musical needs.

This time round for the Electric Frog there is definitely a big live element happening. Optimo (Espacio) are curators of the outdoor Marquee, which will be featuring some great acts such as
Simian Mobile Disco who will be headlining and bringing their full (completely insane) production set up with them. Their live set is an all live, no laptop set up with lots of vintage analogue and modular equipment. No two sets are ever the same and as anyone who has seen them before will testify it is an intensely psychedelic musical experience.
The legendary Liquid Liquid whose "Optimo Cavern" gave Optimo their name will be returning to Glasgow for their first performance here since 2003. Anyone who saw them way back then will testify that they are something of a phenomenon live.
Optimo also welcome back their friends from Frankfurt and one of the best live electronic acts in existence Alter Ego. It is not often they bring back an act a second time, let alone a third but they know that can rely on them to deliver the goods.
Also joining them is London's Factory Floor. It is very easy to hype things up and say a band is the best thing ever but Factory Floor are with 100% heartfelt honesty the best new band Keith and Jonnie have seen in years. Uncompromising, completely original and a sheer wall of power! Try and get down early to see this one. Twitch and Wilkes will also be playing throughout the day in this area, everyone and anyone who has been, witnessed or knows Optimo will be in no doubt of them rocking the party.

Next up will be the Sensu Area inside The Studio Warehouse. Sensu have provided us with another amazing line up, with Felix the Housecat headlining, with new kid on the block and very highly rated Cottam, and Luke Slater's Planetary Assault Sytem playing live, anyone who saw them at the Sub Club last year can testify to this being one almighty show.
The Sensu trio will be performing live as well as Djing, the boys are just back from gigs in Barcelona so they will be well fired up for it. This will be the room for all things electronic, if you haven't seen them before watch out for their turbo sound system.

So last but definitely not least…the street party! There is definitely going to be a New York style Blockparty vibe going on, with the Flying Jalapenos breakin, and the Artists at the Studio Warehouse providing the visuals and Artwork to make the whole experience a memorable one. This coupled with Dj sets from Manchester lad Trus-me and Glasgow’s very own respected Djs Billy Woods and Simon Cordiner, Wrong Islands Teamy and Larry, Beats and Breaks specialists Dema and Nice, and last but not least Piece Together Soundsystems Craig Moog and Kev Stevens, so if you’re gonna head out on Sunday the 1st of August this is one event not to be missed.....

Multiplicity is the password in the Ajello project. Their sounds and ingredients are concentrated by the different experiences and knowledge from the duo's two members Luca “DJ Rocca” Roccatagliati and Fabrizio “Taver” Tavernelli, bringing along their know-how in the fields of Electro, New-Wave, Italo-Disco, Chicago House, Disco, Neurofunk, Eurodance, and the sounds of space.

Their new 12" on new Re-Edit label Demo Disc see's them dropping some tip-top Disco Re-Edit business. With tracks such as "Bull Attack" with a tough kick drum and wah-wahed guitar sounds layered over some nice hypnotic synth which drives the little vocal rap along, creating a great groove. "The Top" Starts off with some killer percussion and dubbed out stabs, which keep the groove going till the bass and vocal kicks in, turning this track into a great uplifting Disco number. With its Chunky bass line and acidic analogue synth sound "Motor Show" serves up a great dance floor killer, which see's the track run along a great spacey groove moving into a nice percussive break.

Should be out in all good record stores any day now, so keep your eyes and ears peeled. Enjoy the music.

A dark, foreboding stillness, thick fog through the treetops, a mysterious cabin in the woods, and an ominous force within. This imagery obliquely provided inspiration to Q-BAM for his new debut EP on EIGHT-TRACKS, "Chainsaw." The title refers to a climactic scene in an infamous American low-budget horror movie. Incidentally, it might also reference how Q-BAM almost took a chainsaw to his studio equipment while creating this track. The Analog Version was meant to be recorded almost entirely with vintage hardware but as the session commenced the Juno-106 started sputtering, the tape on the Chorus Echo snapped, the circuits on the ASR-10 gave off an odor like burnt candle wax, and so on.

Circumventing such ghosts in the machinery, this version of "Chainsaw" ends up a rambunctious and quirky house builder complete with filtered beats, a pounding bassline, squelchy guitar hits, and a buzzing chainsaw synth melody. Like many Q-Burns Abstract Message tracks "Chainsaw" sits firmly between several house music micro-genres while affirming the frenzied accident of its creation.

Q-Burns Abstract Message follows this with two radically self-remixed versions. The first, a Loose Version, attempts to take the American fright flick impetus and move it to a more Italian, Argento-inspired location. The tempo is reduced to a lurching slink and some analog remnants are applied, including juicy spring reverb bass stabs. Haunted pianos and spooky synth strings abound. Next, Q-BAM's Balearic Version attempts a resolution; the ending credits theme, perhaps. Here a breezy and vibrant Spanish-guitar led rendition closes out the EP on an uplifting note.

Suddenly, a pair of remixers were selected who were thought to be in tune with "Chainsaw"'s off-kilter motif. The Italian duo Ajello burst forth with a synth-powered disco revelation that takes the sinister overtone and boldly throws it towards the dancefloor. São Paulo's rising house music talent Jota Wagner also tackles the theme with a funky confidence. His steadily evolving remix piles on layers of melody and rhythm, at one point giving way to a demonic cackle. Mysterious business throughout.

Q-Burns Abstract Message's "Chainsaw" introduces a busy year for the seasoned electronic music producer. In addition to his constant stream of remixes and DJ work Q-BAM is currently recording a follow-up EP as well as his long-awaited album project. The Solid Gold Saturday Safari is a regular Saturday afternoon party which is located in the west of Glasgow City Centre.

The whole concept is a continuation of the East Village NYC Sunday parties which held their last event on Sunday 9th September 2001. The terrorist atrocity which took place two days later, closed down the venue and consequently the club.

Here in Glasgow, the ethos of the events remains the same. Families and children are welcome to come along and have a dance to some of the best contemporary dance music around, supplied by resident Djs Dribbler (Pure), The Earl (SLO-MO) and Anton as well as some quality guests.

The club is steadily making its mark on Glasgow's vibrant clubscene and has already featured Dj sets from JD Twitch (Optimo), Supa DJ Dimitri (Dee- Lite) and Chicago's Chez Damier (Mojuba) who dropped in for an exclusive afternoon set after a gig in London.

Kicking off around 2pm with a great vibe, cheap Bloody Mary's and great music all through the day taking you into the night. This afternoon party is a great addition to the Glasgow music and clubscene and is definitely something the city could do with more of, get down and enjoy.....

The Garden Festival

Held in the majestic coastal town of Petrcane, the event has become one of the most successful ventures on the Croatian festival circuit, last year extending its duration to cover two weekends. The same will apply to 2010, stretching from July 2-11, and featuring many of the acts that made their previous incarnations such a favourite with house and disco fans. Crazy P, Greg Wilson, Mark E, The Revenge and Todd Terje will all be making the most of the beautiful scenery and baking sunshine with plenty of disco delights, while the house side of things will be looked after by the Innervisions crew Henrik Schwarz, Dixon and Ame who will all DJ, with an additional live set by Henrik) as well as Sub Club residents Harri and Dominic

Domu will bring his eclectic vibes along and Ninja Tune's Bonobo will offer some downtempo beats, but one of the festival's real coups is the appearance of The Arthur Russell Tribute Project. Faze Action and Yam Who?will team up to perform some of the legendary New York musician's tracks live under their Killer Whale moniker, which should no doubt be an exciting prospect for those who have bought any of the recent Russell tribute 12-inches on the Electric Minds label.

Sunday 30th May is Sunday Circus Bank Holiday Special in Glasgow with guest Spencer Parker (Rekids) and residents. This see's them moving to the Ark an even larger capacity venue of 380 with a two level courtyard out the back. There going to be having a BBQ as well as some great circus visuals at the Ark and the afterparty. The afterparty will take place in Stereo over two levels with Solardisco playing in the bar area.

Spencer Parker is one of Europe's leading Djs. His unique style of house music is in demand the world over and support for his productions is widespread with the likes of Luciano, Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin, Radio Slave, Nic Fanciulli and Pete Tong. Spencer's DJ style is simply best described as underground electronic house music. A set from Spencer would include acid house and techno alongside some hypnotic instrumental tracks and the odd spaced out vocal.

In 2008, Spencer's production schedule really stepped up a gear with releases on SAW, Buzzin' Fly, Tsuba and Rekids. In 2009 Spencer released his first compilation album for Rekids, the aptly named 'Rekids Revolution'. Disco Deviance is all about keeping quality groove based music alive. Their definitition of 'disco' is very wide and inclusive in the tradition of open minded DJ pioneers like Larry Levan, David Mancuso, Nicky Siano and Tee Scott. Some call it 'Balearic'. But musically speaking, they don't care if it's disco, funk, electrofunk, electro, Italo, post-punk, cosmic, afro, house or whatever as long as it's got the funk and makes people want to dance and party. They seek out the very best tracks, editors and DJs to put Their music together. They want it to be essential. The Disco Deviance idea came about in 2004 when Dicky Trisco first met legendary electrofunk DJ Greg Wilson. A shared love of disco and electrofunk lead to a decision to hold one off events together to showcase the sounds they loved. Things grew from there ultimately leading to an imprint dedicated to keeping the vibe alive.

Out next week comes the first Disco Deviance CD "Digital Deviance Vol. 1". It's a beautifully crafted vinyl look package and features edits from the first five vinyl releases plus exclusive bonus cuts from Fat Camp, Eddie Tour, Pete Herbert and Greg Wilson's great edit "CHA".

Sadar Bahar is one DJ who Million Dollar Disco (Al Kent) have constantly been in touch with, struggling for dates to bring him over to play. He's been high on their hit list for some time now. So their very excited to finally bring him to Glasgow for his Scottish debut.

Kicking off proceedings they've pulled in the talents of two of the best resident DJs they've found in Glasgow. Kev Stevens and Craig Moogroove are resident DJs and co-promoters of the fantastic Solar Disco parties held on the second Saturday of each month in the Brunswick Hotel basement which they run with their mate Paul Maelstrom(Eskimo Recordings).

Taking in sounds from the likes of Tensnake, Floating Points, 6th Borough Project, Cottam and various other cutting edge producers these guys regularly turn the Brunswick basement in Glasgow into a proper sweatbox with full on body rockin sets.

JG Wilkes and JD Twitch have announced that on April 25 they will put an end to their legendary and long-running weekly clubnight, Optimo (Espacio)

They had this to say in a statement on the Optimo forum

“The end is nigh….

“After 12 and a half years (or around 650 Optimos), we have, after a huge amount of consideration and many sleepless nights decided that Sunday April 25th will be the LAST EVER night of Optimo (Espacio) at The Sub Club.

“We have loved doing Optimo with all our hearts, but our hearts are also telling us it is time to call a halt to it. Playing at, organising and promoting a weekly night takes up an enormous amount of energy and there are so many other things we want to do that some of that energy is needed for other projects. We also need to get our lives and weeks back a little bit and take on new challenges and opportunities (we have to turn down an awful lot of opportunities by being committed to being in Glasgow every Sunday and being wiped out every Monday).

“We will continue to tour, promote and release music as Optimo but it will no longer be possible to hear JD Twitch and JG Wilkes dj at The Sub Club every Sunday night.

“However, it is not completely over. Twitch played at the Sub Club on Sunday nights for two years before Optimo started and was involved in a Sunday evening club for a few years before that, so it is hard to let go of Sunday night events in Glasgow completely. Twitch and Wilkes will continue to promote Sunday nights at The Sub Club under an as yet to be announced name. The new night will give a platform to the plethora of great djs in Glasgow, bring djs we love to Glasgow and bring live acts nobody else would bring to this city. Sometimes Twitch or Wilkes may play alongside them and sometimes Twitch and Wilkes will play together on a Sunday night but, without Twitch and Wilkes playing together weekly, it won’t and can’t be Optimo.

“Who know what this new venture will morph into but whatever, we hope that the anarchic spirit we brought to the Sub Club in 1997 will continue to prevail on Sunday nights.

“So, there are 7 Optimos left. Hopefully we will see some of you before the end. We absolutely intend to go out with a bang.”

Optimo is, or was, one of the most distinctive and iconic British clubnights of the past twenty years, and it played an instrumental role in breaking down perceived boundaries and oppositions between different musical genres, thanks largely to the selection skills of DJs Twitch and Wilkes but also their open-minded booking policy with regard to live acts. Over the past decade all of the following, to name but a tiny fraction of the whole, have played the club: Whitehouse, Four Tet, Felix Kubin, Michael Mayer, Annie, Richie Hawtin, Grace Jones, I-f, Throbbing Gristle, Delia & Gavin, Shackleton, Marshall Jefferson and LCD Soundsystem. The club’s remaining weeks promise sets from Jackmaster, Nurse With Wound and Matias Aguayo, among others.

Optimo the club will be sorely missed, but its cultural impact will reverberate for years to come.

Melting Pot are very excited to finally have Danny Krivit guesting with them again, 7 years after giving him his Glasgow debut!

Danny’s biog is lengthy to say the least! Coming up to 39 years as a DJ, resident and guest at some of the biggest New York clubs over that period: from The Paradise Garage, to The Loft, Roxy, Body and Soul, and latterly his own monthly 718 Sessions, to over 200 production credits, and a record collection pushing 70,000! Danny is steeped in New York clubbing history, and so obviously is the perfect Melting Pot guest!

Danny started out DJing in 1971 at his father’s club, The Ninth Circle, in Greenwich Village, where he would play the latest white labels given personally to him by James Brown himself! He built up his DJing career throughout the ‘70’s, immersing himself in the scene, establishing close friendships with the likes of Larry Levan and Francois Kevorkian through David Mancuso’s Loft record pool, and becoming resident at the seminal Roxy club in 1979 for the next four years. It was The Roxy that broke the nascent hip-hop scene in New York, with Grandmaster Flash, Africa Bambaata, and D.S.T. playing alongside the renamed Danny Rock!

During the 1980’s Danny started to make a name for himself as a re-editor of note, with several of his edits became the “standard” versions: MFSB’s Love is the Message being the most obvious. Others included: James Brown’s Funky Drummer, Give it up or Turn it Loose and Brenda and The Tabulations Let’s Go All The Way. Since then his production/mixer/editor credits tally over 200! Earning himself the title “King of the Re-Edits”! With a serious of fantastic compilations over the years on Strut, and latterly the In The House series on Defected.

After holding down residencies all over New York in the 80’s and 90’s, it was in 1996 when he joined forces with Francois K and Joe Claussell to form the weekly Sunday party, Body and Soul, which became a defining moment in his career. Over the 7 of so years that the party ran weekly it became an international institution, with clubbers jetting into New York especially. Body and Soul was thought of as the closest New York had to the Paradise Garage since its closure in 1987, with its forward thinking musical policy of pushing new sounds, but respecting the rich heritage of disco, funk and soul that built the New York club scene. International dates exploded at this point, and Danny continues to play all over the world to this day. Body and Soul carries on as a special event, around 3 times a year in New York, with an annual weekend tour to Japan, and dates from as far afield as Brazil, to London, to Singapore. Since 2002 his 718 Sessions monthly night has gone from strength to strength in New York, and they can’t wait to have him back in Glasgow!

DarkStarr is the new project from Dj Cosmo and Ashley Beedle. This is surely going to be their year with parties, productions - including remixes of Ashley's new venture Mavis on !K7, and Salvador Santana, plus a compilation album DarkStarr Psychedelic Disco-Tech: They Live by the Night due for release in April on Music Response Records.

Mavis is Ashley Beedle and Darren Morris' new project. Their debut album on K7 features Candi Staton, Edwyn Collins, Ed Harcourt, Kurt Wagner and more. As all of the songs are lovely and mellow, Cosmo and Ashley decided it was time to mix it up and give Candi's song "Revolution" a new spin. Their DarkStarr Mix is the result.

Mavis ft. Candi Staton "Revolution" (DarkStarr Mix) and (DarkStarr Dub) will be released on Bitches Brew at the end of March. It will be released as part of the Bitches Brew limited edition 10-inch series with hand silk screened jackets and hand stamped labels. This is a follow up to the debut release of the series, Horace Andy & Ashley Beedle's "When The Rain" (Cosmodelica Mix) which was a huge success. Subsequent releases on the limited edition 10-inch series will include DarkStarr Mix of Salvador Santana and a Cosmodelica Mix of The Phenomenal Handclap Band.

Since moving from New York to London around 2000 Dj Cosmo has continued to build a reputation as a Dj of some note – with the all encompassing New York mindset of Djing with no limits, playing good music, no matter the style or genre, as long as it works on the floor and not being a slave to the beat.

Cosmo is also part of the promotion team that has established the quarterly London Loft parties with David Mancuso – in her days back in New York she was one of a very few people ever to have the privilege to play regularly at The Loft, she was also one of the few guests to play at the seminal Body & Soul nights alongside Joe Claussell, Francois K, and Danny Krivit. Indeed, she in held in such high regard by Francois K that she is one of the few DJs he trusts to play the entire night at his weekly Deep Space residency in New York.

Not content with promoting, DJing and hosting radio shows that are syndicated across the globe, Cosmo also runs her own record label Bitches Brew and has been producing some superb records under the Wild Rumpus alias, which have also featured mixes from Rub n Tug and Prins Thomas.

Last weekend Cosmo was asked to play at the ICA for an Arthur Russell Tribute which included the launch of Tim's Arthur Russell biography and a performance by the Arthur cover band Arthur's Landing (album coming out on Strut / K7). She did the early set and instead of featuring Arthur's disco records, Cosmo played a selection of other types of music which She presumed Arthur would like. From Olatunji to Satie, Jonathan Richman to Joe Gibbs, Richard Hell to Joni Mitchell and The Silver Apples too of course. This is what Cosmo would have played for Arthur had she known him and invited him to dinner. Enjoy The Music....

Cosmo is also part of the promotion team that has established the quarterly London Loft parties with David Mancuso – in her days back in New York she was one of a very few people ever to have the privilege to play regularly at The Loft, she was also one of the few guests to play at the seminal Body & Soul nights alongside Joe Claussell, Francois K, and Danny Krivit. Indeed, she in held in such high regard by Francois K that she is one of the few DJs he trusts to play the entire night at his weekly Deep Space residency in New York.

Not content with promoting, DJing and hosting radio shows that are syndicated across the globe, Cosmo also runs her own record label Bitches Brew and has been producing some superb records under the Wild Rumpus alias, which have also featured mixes from Rub n Tug and Prins Thomas.

ith a wide and varied playlist that veers from his soulboy and reggae roots to the disco, jazz funk of the legendary London afternoon club “Crackers”, where he used to bunk off school to get his “real” education, to tribal house and techno.

Ashley’s been part of some rather huge production teams in the form of: Black Science Orchestra, Ballistic Brothers and the massively successful X-Press 2 with Rocky & Diesel. Over the last couple of years he’s branched out on his own for the first time and has released a string of storming disco based 12s on his Out Hear Audio label under the Heavy Disco Revue, plus hooked up with Strut again with his Inspiration Information album alongside Horace Andy in 2009, after his fantastic Grassroots compilation back in the day.

Ashley’s ability to always stay ahead of the pack continues with his futuristic reggae inspired Warbox project (which has included chart smashing remixes for the likes of Lilly Allen), a rock techno inspired project with the Filthy Dukes’ Mark Ralph, called Ralph und Beedle, a blue eyed soul project called Mavis which is to be released on !K7 in Feb 2010 (featuring Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner, Candi Staton, St Etienne’s Sarah Cracknell plus many more) and his new moniker, Space Programme.

Great new release from The Heels Of Love, their new track "Quiet Please" hits all the right notes. Producers and Dj's Michele Tessadri (Fratelli Riviera/Bearfunk) and Luca 'Sapo' Saponaro (member of The Love Supreme project on Tirk) have delivered another great slice of electronic disco. The outfit is made up from both producers penchant for slap bass, synths, drum machines and a good understanding of the sound their working with.

Having released singles under various guises, The Heels Of Love became the third outing from the great Under The Shade record label. Their Ep title track "Tom Sinder" kicked things off as a simple percussive house cut, but then an elastic banding bassline transformed it into something more disco, with the other tracks in the EP following suit, containing great production and grooves nicely built for the dancefloor. Released on cool new imprint Mad On The Moon, the new track "Quiet Please" see's them maintain this great standard, shifting it up another gear again. In the last coupe of years they have toured Australia and closer to home Ireland, as well as leaving their mark on the festival circuit playing to the packed Strongbow tents at the Isle of Wight and V festival. This summer has seen a full schedule from the bright lights of their debut at Glastonbury and the Garden Festival Croatia… their dates for WeLove Space, Ibiza for the second year running. After asking early enough this year they finally get our man to play at our Hogmanay shindig! Not only that, but this is part of his tour to promote his amazing new Credit to the Edit Vol. 2 album on Tirk, a worthy follow up to the original!

Greg is unashamedly one of their favourite guests and one that we all very much look forward to putting on. Melting Pot were one of the first clubs to have Greg play when he came out of his self imposed exile in December 2003. He had retired from DJing in 1983 whilst resident at Manchester’s legendary Hacienda, but not before he had placed his hallmark on the black music scene in the North of England, at clubs like Legend in Manchester and Wigan Pier, bringing the sounds of New York electro boogie to the UK.

Greg continues to go from strength to strength, with worldwide DJ dates from USA to Japan, Australia, Brazil, all over Europe and the summer festival circuit. This year started off in spectacular fashion with his long overdue debut on the BBC Essential Mix – a total classic! In between that, his production work is still prodigious with various remixes and edits finding their way out on a plethora of labels, including his own Ruff Edits label.

We will be treated to another electro, boogie, funk workout by the master himself, along with his trusty Revox reel to reel machine.

The Revenge (Jiscomusic / Instruments of Rapture)
2009 has certainly been a breakthrough year for Graeme Clark AKA The Revenge. Having first come to everyone's attention with some fantastic edits on the wonderful Jiscomusic label they asked Graeme along to play at Melting Pot at the start of the year - where he absolutely rocked it with his signature blend of slo-mo house edits, full-on disco, house, afro, etc. What better way to celebrate the past year, where The Revenge blew up in a worldwide scale, than to get him back for their New Year Party!

This year has seen a tour of Australia, dates across Europe, the States, Japan, and what seemed to be a weekly release of new productions and remixes. Labels like Instruments of Rapture have showcased Graeme’s individual work, alongside The 6th Borough Project which he does with Craig Smith. Remixes have been coming thick and fast for the likes of the Sunburst Band on Z and new Jiscomusic label Under The Shade; not to mention the other productions and DJ dates he does as Ooft and the L.E.S.S. label he runs. How he has time to fit it all in is a mystery to us!

They are super excited that we have managed to persuade Graeme to stay in Glasgow for New Year; they also know that he is rather looking forward to this himself.

Noid recordings acquired the rights to the entire works of disco super-group, Emerson, Terraldi and Fuquido. And after lengthy discussions with the groups’ LA law firm, the original 8-track masters finally arrived in London.
Of course, this caused uproar amongst the Noid artist roster.
The chance to get their greasy paws on such classic hits as "The Freakout", "Lovely Day" and "Body Karate" was too much to take and it was "Larry Levan mixes at 20 paces" as the disco kids fought for the right to remix. Naturally being such a bunch of utter vinyl junkies, the only way to decide such a serious matter was a disco quiz (with Noid Directors Dan & Conrad Idjut playing the part of Bob Holness of course). Well suffice to say that it was a frightening ordeal for any non-disco-aficionado that turned up at the Funkstar & Firkin that cold September evening. The run-of-the-mill Tuesday pub quiz had been hi-jacked by the Idjuts and, unless you knew the average penis length of a Studio 54 doorman, you’re chances of winning were somewhere between none and fuck all. It was a close contest, but after a sudden death quick-fire round, the Deep Fuzz production team of San Francisco won through, their ability to name the type of soap used in the Paradise Garage toilets putting them head and shoulders above the rest. So the master tapes headed back stateside.

There Deep Fuzz, headed by local waiter, dj and record dealer Ben Cooke, twisted the original disco grooves into a heady cocktail of nineties dancefloor madness. Look out for some more re-issues of classic Emerson, Teraldi and Fuquido kit as Noid continues to plunder the past for its daily dollars. Sincerely, Terry Fuckwitt & Hugh Janus Deep Fuzz are Ben Cook and Gavin Duffy who live in San Francisco. having previously recorded on the Idjuts Noid label they released their debut album "Body Karate", an album which compiled of a mix of their own music, disco cut-ups, alcohol and possibly some smoking. It’s no secret that the Scandinavians have taken the helm when it comes to Nu Disco, Cosmic and Balearic these days. With the likes of Lindstrom, Prins Thomas and Todd Terje emerging as major forces on the current scene there is another stalwart out there, No other than Peter Visti From Denmark, who has been carving out his own Balearic sound for quite some time.

Peter Visti has been DJ’ing, producing and promoting for over 20 years, his first DJ gig was in 1980 and he’s been working hard on the Danish club scene ever since. Responsible for bringing international DJ’s to Club Concorde in Silkeborg and working or large events such as the Lounge Party in Ridehuset, Peter has DJ’ed all over the world and has worked intensively with Jacob Meyland which resulted in the "Time Flies" record label. Released on J.C Records in 1981 Punkin Machine's "I Need You Tonight" may very well have served as the prototype for the funkier 1980s Canadian sound that was to come from the likes of Nancy Martin, Suzy Q, and Karen Silver. The track rolls along with an amazing bassline and groove,great vocals and a cheeky disco riff guitar line.

The track has seen a few edits of the years,most notably the Wrenchman edit and Californian Dj Hugh Herrera's edit on his great H-Track label. The original pressing of this track sell for quite a high price now,and even the edits have become very sought after,and can also now command a high selling value. After being included on James Murphy(DFA) and Pat Mahoney's Fabric mix a few years back,the track found a new audience and attracted some new attention. The second release on Ewan Pearson and Sasse Lindblad's Misericord label came courtesy of Belgium's Mugwump, represented by the duo of Geoffroy Dewandeler and Olivier Grégoire, aka Kolombo. (Spirit Catcher's Jean Vanesse and Thomas Sohet, co-founders of the project, have moved on.) Where earlier Mugwump releases for the likes of Moodmusic have reflected a lush, melodic electro-house sensibility, ‘Boutade’ is in keeping with Misericord's slow-disco aesthetic, clocking in at a churning 107BPM.

With over two minutes of intro, they take their time digging in, but it's hardly wasted: fluttering violins, channeling the nervous energy of Philip Glass, cushion dramatic string vamps and methodical tympanis that stretch the tension to breaking point. The same simplicity rules the rest of the tune, which is built on a fat, jaunty bassline and a plucked lead ruffling its peacock feathers. Map Of Africa is a band featuring the combined forces of legendary DJ/musician Harvey and all around production genius Thomas Bullock.

Having grown up together in the wilds of Fen-land East Anglia they have found their way into a studio built in the old barn of a commune compound deep in the woods and rivers of Northern New York State. From here they have single-handedly written and recorded their first album of songs that, though they are clearly the work of individual vision, can at times remind you of the bands Can and Hawkwind or for that matter Godley and Creme.

Harvey is known for his priceless Black Cock releases and having ushered in the current wave of re-edit hysteria as well as his unique remix and production style that along with his international DJ performances has kept him in a position of cult status amongst disco and dance connoseurs for the past 2 decades.

The Phenomenal Hand Clap Band are a tight-knit aggregation of musicians and artists from Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. At the center of it is Daniel Collás and Sean Marquand who, after years of searching and contemplation, through live performance and the manipulation of recorded music, have finally succeeded in assembling the personification of their holy vision: a musical juggernaut comprised of Daniel, Sean, and their supremely talented friends Patrick Wood, Nicholas Movshon, Luke O'Malley, Laura Marin, Bing Ji Ling, Pier Pappalardo and Joan Tick.

The collective started when Collás and Marquand, two New York underground club DJs, became restless with the concept of playing other people's music. Both had also been involved in the thriving nightlife scene, and had an almost encyclopedic knowledge of esoteric music ranging from Brazilian soul to vintage psych-rock, so becoming producers seemed to be the next logical step.

After working with a wide range of artists, from veteran soul acts to up-and-coming rock n' rollers, the duo set their sights on The Phenomenal Handclap Band, a collective comprised of various luminaries of the indie rock and underground soul scenes. The resulting self-titled debut (which boasts guest appearances by Aurelio Valle, Carol C, Jaleel Bunton, Bart Davenport, Jon Spencer, and Lady Tigra) is the harmonious culmination of numerous diverse musical backgrounds, as well as a testament to Collás’ and Marquand’s singular musical vision. They have crafted a sound that is equal parts anthemic, dancefloor-oriented and orchestral, borrowing elements from progressive rock, disco, electro, and psychedelia.

Live, The Phenomenal Handclap Band is distilled to an eight-member powerhouse, an eye-popping spectacle that overwhelms the senses. It pulses with a savage rhythm section that provides the ultimate foil for cascading guitars and electrified washes of organ and synthesizers. Their delirious sermonizing whips crowds into a charismatic frenzy. Needless to say, their live shows are more akin to a spiritual church revival than an actual rock show.

Pleasure were one of the greatest groups of the west coast scene of the 70s and a key force in defining the Fantasy Records groove of the time. Pleasure have a sound that’s head and shoulders above most of their contemporaries especially groups on major labels who tried for this sort of sound, but never made it come off that well, usually too smooth or too commercial.

The mighty Wayne Henderson is a key factor in their sound as he produced some of the best tracks with that well-balanced groove he brought to his best work under the At-Home Productions umbrella. The track "Joyous" comes from their third studio album released on Fantasy records in 1977,which see's the band go full tilt,with great grooves and an amazing horn section. Los Angeles,circa 1999 Simon "Woolfy" James & D-Hastie meet in a special little dive of a bar, called The Scotland Yard ...a pint ?...yeah a pint will do fine... you make music , I make music, let's make music... The two embarked on what's become an eight year adventure. Their first release on Chicago's Guidance Recordings was "Kingsburg" , a track that's appeared on many compilations,including house legend Tony Humphries at Fabric. From there, the full length , Between Here & Now was released,which made serious waves on the electronic music scene and put Projections on the map. Since then the lads have become well known in Los Angeles for their knock down drag 'em out parties. Always dropping a concoction of spaced-out house , dubbed- up disco,funk and some beard rock. These are where the dancefloors last forever.

As well as Dj'ing , Projections keeps busy in many other projects such as the disco-rocker outfit Woolfy on Rong Records (NY) , and the super heavy funk band Orgone on Ubiquity / Nuff Rope Records (CA/UK). Projections has recently released a 12" on Rong ,which received heavy rotation by DFA frontman James Murphy and other bearded warriors of the cosmic scene. Alphonse Mouzon has had a long and storied career in the music industry. He got his start as a jazz drummer and at some point had played with just about everyone including Roy Ayers, Larry Coryell, and Stevie Wonder. By the late 70's, he had evolved into a successful composer and producer. Like so many other soul and jazz musicians Alphonse caught the fever and started two excellent disco projects. The first being the female fronted Poussez and the other being Mouzon's Electric Band which was fronted by a male vocalist. The Electric Band cut one album in 1979 which featured the amazing 12 inch single "Everybody Get Down".

The track "Everybody Get Down" is a total dancefloor workout thanks to the incredible production value and the driving, hypnotic bassline which keeps you on the floor,always maintaining the groove. The track has been a firm favourite with many great Djs over the years,and always a main stay in many peoples record boxes. Anyone attending the summer festivals: “Rockness”, “The Big Chill” and “Bestival” will have noticed the marauding entity that is the Rizla Invisible Players. Performing from the 1920s travelling music van, a Funktion One soundsystem and an array of deckchairs, the likes of Jazzie B, Tim Sweeney, JD Twitch, Andrew Weatherall, Jon Carter and many more uber talented DJs, brought their own unique vibe to the events. The summer is over, but The Rizla Invisible Players are hooking up with Melting Pot to bring together a phenomenal line up over 2 floors to bring 2009 to a close with a bang.

Eric Duncan (Rub N Tug / Still Going / NYC):
Native New Yorker Eric Duncan is one half of the fantastic Rub N Tug duo, and also on DFA as Still Going with partner Liv Spencer of House of House fame. He’s also been curating the excellent Japanese based C.O.M.B.i. re-edit label, and when he’s got the time branching out solo style with some quite stunning pieces of music as Dr Dunks on the ludicrously rare Whatever We Want label. Phew!
Eric’s attitude to DJing? “I’m halfway out there with the party people, drinking and shouting just as everyone else at the party”.

Melting Pot welcome back man of the moment - Mark E. Renowned for his reworking of disco and boogie classics such as Bobby Womack’s “Baby, I’m scared of you” and Tata Vega’s “Get it up for Love”, on the Jiscomusic label. Mark has gone from strength to strength in 2009 with the launching of his Merc records imprint that have been getting emphatic reviews. Mark is not only “completely on fire at the moment in the studio” (piccadillyrecords.com), but for those who witnessed his performance at Melting Pot’s New Year party, he’s also on fire playing out!

JD Twitch:
JD Twitch is one of the two DJs who founded “Optimo” and was a resident at the seminal “Pure” night in Edinburgh.
A man who needs no introduction in his home town of Glasgow, Twitch has a history of creating mayhem on the Melting Pot dance floor, so we can expect more of the same.

Autodisco:
Having established an excellent reputation on the back of their highly popular Dundee club night, the Autodisco DJs have continued to enhanced their profile over the last few years with some top performances in the Rizla Arena at Rockness, in the Stonebridge Tent at Glastonbury, and have earned themselves a monthly residency in London at The Social along the way.

The distinctive Autodisco sound which fuses Disco, Electro Funk, House and a Balearic anything goes attitude has also led to guest mix slots for BBC Radio 1 as well as heavily downloaded internet mixes on respected sites like Another Night On Earth and Juno Download.

City Reverb the band, who've been transfixing festival goers all summer including Glastonbury and Camp Bestival also were hosts of a special "Late At The Tate" there in August. "City of Lights", City Reverb's evocative debut single was released in September last year. The band had selected such luminaries as Prins Thomas,Reverso 68 and the subterranean tastemeister Trevor Loveys to bring their vibes to the remixes.

City Reverb were brought together by Chis Coco who is a great musician, producer and Dj. Coco's main staple as a kid was New Order, Kraftwerk and The Velvet Underground and this eclectic mix of music has been the foundation of his music making ever since, whether it be one half of the team who brought us cult Radio One show the Blue Room or producing seminal albums like "Next Wave" which included collaboration with singer Nick Cave, author Iain Banks and actor Patrick Bergin. At some point in the mid-nineties Steve Yanko began obsessively tinkering with two turntables and a keyboard sampler and hasn't stopped since, spawning a career in dance that continues to grow. Discovering disco early on, and the way it was being cut up into proto-house at the time set the style and sound for his lengthy career in music. Coming out of Toronto's famed millennium-era party boon, Yanko was the motivator for many early-morning noise complaints as the dj/promoter behind some of the city's best warehouse parties including the legendary Leisure loft parties. In 2004, Yanko was commissioned by Chicago's famed Trax Records to re-master many gems from their legendary catalogue as well as mix a compilation titled 'Twilight Trax' (2005). That same year saw Yanko launch his own Truffle Music imprint with a mission to expand on his own growing catalogue of releases and expose the world to the burgeoning new sound coming out of Toronto. Widely accepted by the house-not-house and disco loving community, Truffle staked it's claim in the world of forward-leaning dance music and continues to impress with it's unique roster and focus on quality music.

Mark Seven is no stranger to underground music, his involvement goes back to the early 80's his input has included organising and promoting parties like the all night 'Bizzare' one of the original Balearic/early house all nighters (when it was illegal !) as well as many others in the late 80's. A Shoom regular he began dj'ing and now also collects and sells records to those lucky enough to receive his lists. He now resides in Sweden home of all beautiful things including vinyl !

Mark is also co-promoting parties 'The Lodge' and NY Social Club and keeping relation to other parties in Europe, inviting great guests such as Prins Thomas (Feedelity) and Phil Mison (Reverso 68).

His mixes have gained notoriety on websites such as Dj History and San Diego DJ Hugh Herrera's H-Track.com for his eclectic leftfield selection of old and new music innovatively mixed. Mark is one of the few to really capture the understanding of Balearic style of music and how to play it. He's able to mix many genres with keeping respect to the music and the dancefloor in front of him,always making it exciting.

More recently Mark has returned to London to play at Lazermagnetic Bank Holiday parties and at Plastic People alongside Gerry Rooney (Black Cock),also travelling up to Glasgow to play the Melting Pot clubnight. Due to the dirty disco edit release "Shadows" backed with "Ain't Afraid to Beg" on Wurst Edits that gained them coveted spots on the Glimmers' Eskimo V Mix and the Lindstrom and Prins Thomas' Essential Mix on BBC Radio one, Runaway has set a noticeable pace amongst NYC's finest. Collaborating on upcoming original work with the likes of James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), and Brennan Green (Chinatown), Runaway are also exporting their New York style abroad. Their releases on Cosmo Vitelli's I'm A Cliché imprint started the trend and with the dual label release of "Brooklyn Club Jam" linking New York dons DFA with Berlin/London lords Rekids.
